Media ignores Trump extramarital affair with model
Trump extramarital affair with young model crosses line, read the fictional headline. Candidate drops out of race amid calls of Republican hypocrisy.
The headline was never realized, but I imagined it after reading a New York Times expose on Trump. The article: “Crossing the Line: How Donald Trump Behaved with Women in Private.”
Trump extramarital affair
Ms. Rowanne Brewer Lane, a 26-year-old model when she met and dated Donald Trump, almost 20 years her elder, spoke on record. In the article she recounted meeting Trump in Florida at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
“Donald was having a pool party at Mar-a-Lago. There were about 50 models and 30 men. …He seemed a little smitten with me. … He suddenly took me by the hand and showed me around the mansion. … He took me into a room and opened drawers and asked me to put on a swimsuit.”
Media missed the real story
Apparently the private modeling encounter began a relationship that lasted for months. A messy but okay story of love to many but others might see a rich and powerful elite businessman preying on a vulnerable young woman.
The media focused on Trump’s overall lewd, crude and boorish behavior. The right wing pushback targeted the New York Times and demanded an apology for printing content accurately but making inaccurate assertions.
Ms. Brewer Lane said nice things about her former adulterous boyfriend and Donald’s sex scandal ended before it got traction, but there are lingering questions. Beyond Trump’s ethical lapses, one has to wonder about the sincerity of his evangelical followers. Additionally you have to question the source and tolerance for media incompetence.
More questions than answers
Were the swimsuits in the mansion specifically placed there for Ms. Brewer Lane or for some of the other 50 models in attendance? How many model swim parties did Trump have at Mar-a-Lago? Is Trump still having elite swim parties featuring 50 models? When was the last one? (And how do we get invited?)
Where’s there’s smoke, there’s fire… and desire!
And about Trump’s extramarital affair with Brewer Lane, how did it go down when he told her he was married? Okay, okay, just being nosey now, but I remember how Bill Clinton and Hillary and Democrats suffered the slings and arrows of self-righteous Republicans in the 1990s – just hoping for a little payback.
Evangelical blinders
Even without sordid details, surely the disclosure of an extramarital affair would send evangelicals screaming to the exits and into Ted Cruz’s camp. After all, wasn’t a similar affair Bill Clinton’s biggest sin? An old Bill and a young adult Monica … doing the unforgivable?
Nope. Regarding Trump, never heard a peep of outrage from the right, evangelical or otherwise. Methinks their outrage machine and phony set of virtues and principles are only intended for others. Trump proves that hypothesis correct almost daily.
