Trump nuclear codes unnerve GOP

The thought of an erratic President Donald Trump with nuclear codes that can end civilization at his fingertips and any international provocation unnerve U.S. military and intelligence enough to speak out against Trump in public.

Time for the nuclear cloud political ad

What if, say Kim Jong-un tested a nuclear device close to a U.S. warship? The provocation could quickly escalate to a Trump-ordered nuclear strike against North Korea. Nuclear and political fallout would extend to neighboring South Korea and China… not to mention Japan is nearby and Russia is just up the coastline.

After a week of Republican Party and Trump campaign bipolar meltdowns, many conservatives and rational thinkers wonder about Trump’s mental fitness to serve. Today the conversation turns to how a dangerous, reckless President Trump would endanger civilization around the world.

General Hayden expresses frightening concerns about Trump

General Michael Hayden, former Director of the National Security Agency appeared on MSNBC’s  Morning Joe program. General Hayden was interviewed by co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski from Washington, DC.

Joe set the stakes:

“We’re going to be talking about nuclear annihilation.

A lot of people keep asking me about Donald Trump.”

“He may not be the most stable guy in the world. But there certainly are enough checks and balances so if he gets angry he can’t launch a nuclear weapon.”

“What safeguards are there to say stop any president who may not be stable from launching a nuclear attack against another country?”

General Hayden expressed clear concerns about Trump: “Well, Joe, the Commander in Chief is the Commander in Chief. And the Constitution, Article II, puts great power in the Executive. The Founders knew that national defense required authority, direction, agility and speed so there is an awful lot of authority in the office.”

Mika was already squirming, “What are you saying?”

How do you stop Trump from launching nukes?

Joe: “In this case, is there a safeguard to stop a President who is unfit to be the Commander in Chief and the final person who presses the code and launches nuclear weapon against a country that has angered the Commander in Chief?”

General Hayden: “Joe, that chain of command was built for speed and decisiveness. … I share the fear that we are headed for, may be setting up the circumstances that create a crisis in civil-military relationships … at steps far below pressing the nuclear trigger.”

Flockism obstructs, drags down U.S. everything

Joe: “General, what concerns you most about Donald Trump?”

General Hayden: “How erratic is he (Trump).”

With his deep concerns, General Hayden was negative about the prospects of voting for Donald Trump: “I don’t know how you undo so many of the things that have taken place.” But Hayden personally would not commit support for Clinton.

Doh!

The scenario playing out before Americans and the world is insightful. And a great example for what is seriously wrong, possibly mentally wrong with conservatives and the Republican Party. This past week in particular has been a case study and the definition of what I call flockism

Flockism: the mindless adherence to a strict ideology without rational thought about consequences.

Republican flockism: Even when faced with the possibility of an unfit, erratic Donald Trump as Commander in Chief with nuclear codes and the dysfunctional temperament to use them, many Republicans are steadfast in their ultimate support for Trump.

I’m tempted to drop a Nazi reference and analogy here but let’s just say that you could run weasel against Hillary Clinton for President and Republicans would vote for the weasel!
